Announcement Format of European Job Market (EJME) 2021

The 4th European Job Market for Economists (EJME) will be held virtually from Wednesday, December 15 to Saturday, December 18, 2021.

We very much looked forward to an in-person European job market in Barcelona this year, and are very thankful to the University of Barcelona School of Economics for both their willingness to hold the market and organizational efforts under difficult circumstances. However, we have reached the unfortunate conclusion that the uncertainty involving COVID necessitates a virtual European job market in 2021.

We make this decision with careful consideration of the best interests of the job candidates. We believe and hope that holding first round job market interviews virtually will:

  • Alleviate candidate stress about how the market will play out and allow job candidates to plan and prepare accordingly,
  • Ensure equal access to job opportunities for candidates across a wide range of departments and European countries (which face potentially different COVID situations and/or restrictions), and
  • Ensure that candidates remain healthy through the first round interview process and increase the chances of being able to conduct in-person fly outs.

We look forward to returning to an in-person European job market in 2022 in Berlin!
